Finding your perfect lipstick hue

A fresh lip colour is one of the easiest ways to inject some style into your look.

Follow our guide to finding your perfect signature hue.

IF YOU LOVE BRIGHTS

Try coral or poppy.  Don’t think of them as purely summer shades – these vibrant shades can make any winter look pop.

Tip:  Electric coals look great on olive skin thanks to its golden undertones.  Bring out fairer skins radiance with peach-toned lippy.

IF YOU’RE ALWAYS THINKING PINK

Choose an ultra-bright version to blast away winter blues.  Team with rosy blush and lots of mascara for an ultra-feminine look.

Tip:  Choose a shade with bluer undertones if you have fair skin.  Keep it sophisticated by skipping a girly gloss over the top.

IF YOU WANT TO KEEP IT NEUTRAL

Stick to flattering beige, brown and tea rose pink.  A shiny or satin finish keeps these basic shades from looking too flat.  They also give you free reign to go dramatic with your eye make-up.

Tip:  If you have fair skin go for something slightly darker than your natural lip colour or you’ll look washed out.  Darker skin tones can get away with lighter nudes.

IF YOU WANT  TO SHOW YOUR DARK SIDE

Go for plum, burgundy or raisin.  These rich, dark shades are stunning for night time, but try them for day if you’re feeling bold.

Tip:  Use a lip liner to contain the colour or stick to long-lasting versions that won’t run.

IF YOU LOVE CLASSIC GLAMOUR

A bright true red is all you need.  Today’s formulations give high pigment with softer, more forgiving textures, so consider a red lip even if you’ve not been happy with the results in the past.
