Easy Hacks To Transition To Autumn Makeup

Kiss goodbye to your cute pink and coral lip glosses, farewell your nude lippy, say ta-ta to your bronzer and get ready to welcome a new makeup season with rich autumnal tones and bold lips.

Yep, autumn is here and it’s time to welcome back your eye palette and add some drama to your look. While summer makeup is about less is more, autumn is all about more is more. It’s about playing with texture, shimmer and colour, and ensuring you make a WOW statement when you enter a room.

With these easy makeup hacks, it won’t be just the leaves changing colour this season:

Skin

Swap powder foundations and BB creams for a buildable semi-matte cream or liquid foundation that delivers deep hydration. Autumn skin tends to be drier in part due to heating and chillier winds, so the more you can nourish skin the better. Look for a youthful velvety or satin finish that provides effortless dewy radiance. Stop any excess sheen with a light powder dust over the T-zone.

Cheeks

Use a cream blush in warm tones on the apples of the cheeks to restore summer colour. Finish with highlighter - ideally in cream - on the tops of cheekbones. Avoid bronzer as it will clash with pale complexions making the overall look jarring and unnatural. For even more depth, apply cream highlighter on the apples of the cheeks underneath blusher.

Eyes

It’s time to bring back colour and texture to eyes. Introduce a smoky eye in rich or warm colours such as coppers, golds and autumnal browns, sultry berries and plums, or elegant charcoals and greys. Experiment blending two colours together and use cream eyeshadows or shimmer for an eye-popping finish. While a nude eye packs whimsical charm in summer it can make the face appear washed out and aged. Instead, apply subtle colour like pale golds and rusts for warmth, depth and tone. Complete this look with a winged eyeliner and a full colour bold lip.

Lips

Statement lips are the star this autumn. If you’re drawn to a pink tone in summer, go for blue-based reds and deep pinks in crimson, cherry, berry, aubergine and plum. If you are more of a coral fan, play with yellow-based firetruck reds and oranges, like vermillion, scarlet, burgundy, cocoa, and terracotta. Use a lipliner for a defined finish. Alternate textures for added drama pairing a matte lip with a shimmer eye shadow and a gloss lip with matte eye shadows.
